Should I Consider Cordyceps If I want to Boost my Testosterone Levels?

Each year more testosterone boosters come onto the market. It’s hard to understand which ones are going to be the best for your own individual needs, especially if you don’t know the ingredients inside the supplement you’re taking.
 
As you get older, you start to produce less testosterone. This occurs around the age of 24-25. When your testosterone declines, physical exercise and muscle building can be more of a challenge for you. Other things can occur such as diminished libido and fatigue. As you get into your 30s and 40s, lower testosterone levels can play havoc on your body. Many men in their 30s and 40s turn to testosterone boosters to bring back some of that youthful feeling again. A testosterone booster will help you gain the testosterone that you lack as you age. There’s many ingredients in testosterone boosters and one of these is what we call Cordyceps.

Cordyceps

You can find Cordyceps on caterpillars as it’s a type of fungus. You’ll find these caterpillars in the mountain ranges in China. Cordyceps continues to reproduce even in the laboratory. Supplement makers don’t have to grow the specific caterpillars or harvest anything to get additional Cordyceps.
 
There’s several physical ailments that are treated with Cordyceps such as kidney disorders, chronic bronchitis, chronic coughs, respiratory problems, male sexual performance challenges, urination difficulties, irregular heartbeat, anaemia, dizziness, liver disorders, high cholesterol, weakness, unexpected weight loss, and tinnitus. It’s been used to boost the immune system and to help with athletic performance. Some say that the effects of ageing like low energy, wrinkles, and a loss of strength can be reversed with Cordyceps. Some cultures use Cordyceps as a stimulant to boost energy levels, reduce fatigue, and enhance stamina levels.

Is It Effective?

Men want to know if the supplements that they take are going to be effective. These supplements have a lot of ingredients and some are better than others. There’s been numerous studies conducted on Cordyceps with both animals and human test subjects. Studies have shown that Cordyceps can stimulate cells within our immune system and it also has cancer-fighting benefits particularity with skin or lung cancer. Here’s several studies that have been done on Cordyceps.

The First Study We Found On Cordyceps & Testosterone Production:

This study was done at the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, Taipei Medical University, Taipei, Taiwan, by Hsu, Lin and team. The researchers looked at whether Cordyceps had a direct impact on plasma testosterone levels. The study was done in 2011 and it was double-blind, randomized, and controlled by a placebo. The study was done on males with an age range of 19-25. This age range is significant because this is when males have the maximum amount of testosterone being produced by the body during their lifetime. Those that participated in the study were given Cordyceps Sinensis over a period of eight weeks.
 
The dosage was: CS; 2.4 g/day; n = 8) or a placebo (P; 2.4 g maltodextrin/day; n = 8).
The researchers were not able to find any changes in plasma testosterone levels. There was a very small increase, but this wasn’t deemed to be significant enough to warrant listing Cordyceps to be effective for raising testosterone levels.
 
The age range of the participants may have played a factor in the study since they already had high testosterone levels due to their young age. The researchers suggested that the studies done on mice and rats that were positive, may not be as effective when done on adult males.

The Second Study We Found On Cordyceps & Testosterone Production:

In 2004 a study at the Human Performance Research Center at Brigham Young University was done by Parcell Smith and team. The researchers looked at Cordyceps Sinensis to see if it had any effect on endurance performance during exercise. The study was placebo-controlled double-blind and randomised. The study was conducted with twenty-two male cyclists. Researchers found that there were similar readings between the test subjects and the placebo-controlled group in terms of performance. The team used CordyMax Cs-4 as the supplement. The conclusion was this brand of supplement had no effect on aerobic capacity or the endurance exercise performance for the cyclists that took part in the study.

The Third Study We Found On Cordyceps & Testosterone Production:

In 2012 at the Department of Life Science, College of Biomedical and Health Science at Konkuk University, Chungju, Republic of Korea, Sohn, Lee and team conducted a study. They wanted to see of Cordyceps had long-term effects on the function the testicles of middle-age rats, the rats were given oral Cordyceps at 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg body weight which lasted for four months. In the treated group the researchers found that there was an improvement in several functions. They saw an increase in mature spermatozoa and the cellular material was more densely packed. The study concluded that Cordyceps can counteract a decline in functionality for rats that have reached middle age.

The Fourth Study We Found On Cordyceps & Testosterone Production:

In 2004 at the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, a study was conducted by Huang, Leu and team. The researchers looked at whether Cordyceps Sinensis could be effective at improving male mice reproductive functions. It’s not known how many mice were used in the study or the age of the mice. The dosage amounts weren’t given, but researchers saw an increase in plasma testosterone levels for the mice. The treatments were given for three-day and seven-day cycles. The study showed that Cordyceps Sinensis is effective for boosting testosterone levels.

The Fifth Study We Found On Cordyceps & Testosterone Production:

At the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Hsu, Huang and team conducted a study in 2003. This study looked at whether Cordyceps Sinensis had any stimulation effects on testosterone levels in Leydig cells of mice. The sample size or dosage sizes used in the study aren’t clear. The researchers found that the testosterone production in mouse Leydig cells was stimulated by Cordyceps Sinensis. They noted that Cordyceps Sinensis might be an alternative medical treatment for some problems in the body such as low testosterone levels.

The MSS Summary:

There was been some significant research done on Cordyceps. It’s clear that there are some potential benefits for using Cordyceps to boost testosterone levels in the body, but not conclusive evidence. There were only two male human tests done using the ingredient to find testosterone boosting effects or performance enhancement, but the test groups were a specific age and fitness level.
 
There need’s to be more research studies that are conducted on average adult males over the age of thirty to determine how effective this ingredient is on boosting T levels in the body. The studies done on mice and rats are encouraging as it seems Cordyceps can boost testosterone levels in animal test subjects. It’s still important to note that Cordyceps may help adult males increase testosterone, reduce fatigue, improve strength, and increase their overall sex drive. As we find more studies on Cordyceps we will post them here.
